TechSpace Bend First Friday Art Hop with Katie O’Neil

TechSpace Bend is hosting their second Art Hop this Friday. Come on down – come all. We will have Paulina Plunge Pale Ale on tap (Bend Brewing Company), pretzels, and a few other things.

About the Artist

Katie O’Neil grew up in Corbett, Oregon, a small town that rests in the scenic Columbia River Gorge. Though beautiful, the gorge is a treacherous alley for wind and, in many ways, she’s never felt able to paint these gorge scenes of her childhood—it’s as if she’s too familiar, and thus, biased. So, Katie travels in order to find those common scenes and emote the senses that stem from the people within them: “Communicating from an outsider’s perspective feels much more pure to my artistic hand.”

Katie has painted for almost a decade, moving away from acrylic media to watercolor: “With watercolor I am able to work more instinctively with color and composition. So much of my inspiration is found in people. I aim to communicate about the way people live and how they interact with their environments.” Her style is marked by a blend of impressionist techniques with contemporary subjects and sharp color.
